By Molly Van Houweling -- Mt Hood Classic - Stage 4 RR (W1-3) -- 06/05/10

After taking a week to reflect on all of the excitement, I’m ready to unveil the official drink of the 2010 Mt. Hood Cycling Classic. It shares some characteristics with the classic Rum Runner drink (hence the name), but each ingredient here is inspired by a contributor to our race success.
"The Hood River Runner"
Muddle together in the bottom of a cocktail shaker:
1 strawberry (Heather’s favorite)
.5 oz lime juice (to remind Marian of the green pine forests she enjoyed racing through)
1 oz light rum (Jane’s spirit of choice)
Add:
1 oz Clear Creek Distillery Oregon pear brandy (my GC prize!)
.25 oz whiskey (because Cody gave us what we asked for in the feed zone, so he gets what he asked for in this drink)
.25 oz Clear Creek Distillery eau de vie of Oregon Mirabelle plums (per request by teammate Ali, who lent us a whole pile of spare kits to keep us looking minty fresh)
.5 oz Metromint lemonmint water (for Amanda, who wins the most minty team spirit award)
.5 oz Stein Distillery huckleberry cordial (because it’s hand crafted in Oregon and I do my souvenir shopping at the liquor store)
.5 oz Cascade Mountain gin (for Rob, who is already getting organized for our next Oregon stage race, the Cascade Cycling Classic in Bend)
A dash of orange bitters (for Ariel, who was feeling a little ornery after the tough mountain stage)
Fill with ice and shake. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass rimmed with a mixture of sugar and salt (for our Mexican margarita Gaby). Toast to great team work producing a winning result and a tasty drink!
